The entry into the German album charts was inevitable. »Hammer Of The North« (2010) continued with this momentum and the band toured with other scene legends: MOTÖRHEAD and Doro Pesch. In addition to the countless live shows, including a tour with legends ELECTRIC WIZARD and CATHEDRAL, it played a key part in the bands prominent rise to the forefront of the genre. Yet the breakthrough was their 2008 work »Iron Will« that took the fans’ heart by storm. But over the years, GRAND MAGUS introduced a penchant for classic Heavy Metal which combined with their inherent groove became the band’s signature sound – the first signs of this can be found on »Monument« (2003) and »Wolf’s Return« (2005). Their self-titled debut album »Grand Magus« (2001) started to stir up the underground and is now considered to be a cult favourite. In their over 20 year career, the band from Stockholm, Sweden, has been eternalized in the Metal history and looks back on a treasury full of all-time Heavy Metal anthems. As the majority of the songs were recorded on the first take, they have an honest, diverse and yet down-to-earth sound that envelops the trio’s true power. Recorded in Sweetspot Studio in Sweden, together with producer Staffan Karlsson ( ARCH ENEMY, FIREWIND, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS), the corner stone was laid for another triumphal procession. By letting the music flow naturally the band have managed to craft melodies, riffs and rhythms that unite to forge overwhelming yet memorable hymns, which will find their place in the throne room of Metal history. The band’s new method of recording fits perfectly with their overall sound. This is joined by a superbly-placed JB whose voice hovers emotionally and variably over the strong and memorable instrumentals. The groove and heaviness that were featured on the successful predecessor can also be found on the new, ninth studio album which once again holds a number of future classics. »Wolf God« rises over the Heavy Metal scene majestically and lets the guitar riffs speak for themselves. This time, we met up, jammed and created together during the last six months with the goal to record basic tracks live.“ Something, lovers of little details will realize, yet GRAND MAGUS haven’t lost their basic philosophy. Singer and guitarist JB points out their new way of working: “ We decided to let go of the current philosophy to record drums first and then bass and then guitar etc. Accordingly, the Heavy Metal giants started to develop new songs as fast as possible after their last record. The riff gods are back! A little more than two years have passed since the great »Sword Songs« album was released, but GRAND MAGUS can never quench their thirst for action.

If you want to see the options in the visualizer, you can push the F1 key to see a list.Ĭredit goes to Yirkha on Hydrogen audio forums for creating the shpeck plugin and Nullsoft for making the visualizations available freely. I also set a keyboard shortcut to my M key to start the visualization while in preferences. I set my default to fullscreen, set my fullscreen settings to my desktop resolution, and, since I have a faster video card and cpu, I upped the mesh size under more settings to 96x72 (completely optional, but looks amazing). Configure Shpeck under the visualization section by setting the directory you extracted your winamp dummy dir to and then select Milkdrop in the list of available plugins and click configure. Now start foobar2000 and enter preferences. You may need to download 7zip extractor to extract the files. Second, you need to download the dummy Winamp directory from here and extract it wherever you like (I put it in the foobar2000 program directory). I've tested this myself on XP pro and Windows7 64.įirst, you need to download the foo_vis_shpeck wrapper plugin and extract it to your foobar2000/components directory in your program files (C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86) if you have 64 bit). I really missed this visualizer when I switched from Winamp to foobar2000 for better quality and less bloat years ago and works well with multiple monitors. If you haven't heard of milkdrop before, it is a highly capable visualization with literally hundreds of different presets out there for it. Now you can have the sound quality and the visualization together. Its a truly great thing to have for a windows based htpc and is part of many htpc packages like XBMC. I may just be excited that I've finally found a way to do this, but in the off chance that anyone is still using foobar2000 and interested in having pretty colored pixels move to their music on their PC, here is how I got milkdrop and other nullsoft visualizations working with foobar2000 seamlessly. |
